My Personal Prayer

Lord, thank you for giving me another day, another opportunity to become woman for others. Thank you for all the blessings you showered upon me. Thank you for giving me a chance to touch the hearts of others…

Please forgive me for my shortcomings especially when I lost my patient inside the classroom… and when I feel badly sensitive with others…  I humbly ask for your forgiveness…

Lord, guide me as I practice my teaching profession. Enable me to make a lasting difference for the coming generations. Please help me to make my day-to-day journey with my students and colleagues meaningful… Please fulfill my hearts with a deeper desire to scaffold their young minds… to share with them the gift of knowledge…and to extend my love for them…

Lord, please grant me strength especially when I feel weak, stress, problematic and fragile every time my students feel me unseen…guide me to be gently in dealing with their misbehaviors…and to be kind and gently to all people that surround me…

In Jesus’ name, I pray, Amen…

Vision Statement

To develop genuinely scaffold young individuals equipped with skills and knowledge who will soon thrive and lead our nations towards prosperity.

Mission Statement

As a teacher, it is my mission to inculcate with my students the gift of knowledge and skills they need to surpass the ups and downs of life, that despite of its imperfections, they would thrive their lives positively. It is my pleasure to be their source of inspiration for reaching their dreams.

My Educational Philosophy Statement

I believe that all children have special skills to bring out. I see each of them as unique individuals with full of potentials. I will assist them to develop and surface their own uniqueness. I will push them a little bit harder and let them believe that they could do the best things that their hearts will ever know. Discrimination is highly prohibited inside my classroom. Respect with each other will always practice. Together with my subject matter, I will always integrate values formation believing that children are what we view as our future leaders.

I will provide them a conducive environment where in, my students can grow physically, emotionally, mentally and socially. I will establish interactive classroom setting where my students can freely share their ideas and opinions. I will prepare hands-on activities for mastery and let them show their creativeness. I will make use of cooperative learning strategies for them to learn from others. I will try to develop assignments that foster analytical and critical thinking which lead them towards excellency. I will scaffold their young minds with discipline and lead them to become responsible citizens.

Learning Episodes

  • What Lies Ahead?

Thinking of practice teaching really give me unexplainable feelings. I know being in the school where I soon to have my practice teaching, is not that easy as other think. I know being there will give me a lot of experience and memories that I would never forget. Might I experience pain or happiness. Might I feel exhausted or relax. Might I meet kind or terrible students. Might I have colleagues who will care us or ignore us. Might have comfortable or unventilated classrooms. Might I will love teaching or I hate teaching. Who knows what lies ahead?

  • The School Principal

May I introduce you Ma’am Melinda P. Bandoy, the School Principal I would never forget for the rest of my life. She made our practice teaching possible. She initiated to call us and gave us opportunity to serve their and our school. She is not a kind of principal who will give you the instructions or the mechanics to follow. She is not the one who will observe you inside the classrooms. She allows us to manage and teach our classes in our own creative ways. For me, this would be quite difficult because I don’t have any idea where do I begin. But seeing other side, she teaches us to be more responsible individuals.

  • My Learning Environment, My Second Home

20181029_112337

Here I am in front the gate of Pamukid National High School. I will surely experience what is the reality. This campus is totally different compare when I was studying here. There are additional buildings and other infrastructure, but the old classroom remained the same.

It reminisces me when I was a young student of this school. I also saw familiar faces who were my teachers before. This time, I’m here not to study but to share knowledge with the students while continuing learning with them. I’m here to nurture young minds and prove myself that teaching is really for me. I know that this place will define my journey.

As expected, this school is really different from private schools. This place reflects what the authorities should pay attention. Lack of chairs, unventilated classrooms, not enough number of books and undisciplined students. Despite of those imperfections, the show must go on.

  • My Teachers, My Colleagues

A number of familiar faces I see around the campus. They were my teachers before. They still the same from the first time I met them. They are teaching for many years with high level of motivation and dedication. It is my gratitude to work with them.

For the second time, I’m here to learn again, to positively influence by them. Sometimes when I feel stress and exhausted in teaching my classes, I ask myself why these teachers still serving and sharing knowledge for a long time. Why I can’t do the same? These teachers gave me significant advice to fonder. They showed me what teaching should be.

  • My journey begins with my precious students…

Here I am, experiencing a lot of important things to fonder. Meeting my students give me mixed emotions. I feel “somehow” proud that I would be their teacher. They make me feel that I have an important role to them. They give me respect as their teacher.

Days, weeks and months passed by, and left me always some experiences and realizations that I would never forget. There are times that I feel exhausted/stressed after my classes. Sometimes I want to give up and never teach them again. A lot of students who are not interested to attend their classes. A lot of students who are enjoying doing their own business or chatting with their seatmates especially in my lower grade students. Some of them are irresponsible who don’t care for their grades. Some of them love to escape their classes. They have different behaviors and clashing attitudes inside the classroom. Oh my, I found it terrible!..

While checking their output and during recitation, I observe them keenly. I would be able to point out some important reasons why they act that way. Many of them cannot write, read and comprehend well. At their age, it is difficult for some of them to compose essay and read and understand even simple instruction. Moreover, it is also my routine to read their journals as part of their requirements and I notice that most of them have family issues to address. Oh my, that is the reality!.. So what I did is to reach out with these students and try to give them a pieces of advice.

Being with them totally revealed the nature of my work. Being a teacher is not easy profession. It requires deeper desire to teach, to form students. It is true that experiencing those imperfections will bring me to ask question if I will survive in teaching…

  • Writing and Implementing My Lesson Plan

It is funny experience to share. I admit that I am not very good in writing lesson plan using English as language, but while writing it using Tagalog I am not good too. It is hard for me to transfer some English words to Filipino words. Meaning, either I am not good using Filipino language. Oh my, I need to cope with this matter. It takes me three hours to finish my lesson plan in Edukasyon sa Pagpapakatao (ESP) using our language. I remember one of my professors sharing the same experience. I agreed with her. Another thing I encountered in writing my lesson plan is that, the format here in public school is totally different for what I know. I spent ample time to familiarize myself with this format.

During my implementation, I feel the same thing. It is hard for me to deliver some of the concepts using plain Tagalog as the language. Sometimes I use English to deliver it properly but it gives confusion to my students. Some of them say “Ma’am dae mi po maintindihan” or “Ma’am Tagalog po ang ESP”, Yes, they are right, so I need to search for Tagalog words just to explain it accurately.

Having writing and speaking as my routine every night and every day, somehow, I feel comfortable using Tagalog whether in writing or in speaking.

  • Adjusting Period

Many times, sleeping late at nights just to write my lesson plans. Just to prepare my visual aids. Just to think for the activities that will keep my students motivated. Often, I escape my meals because of stress I felt after my classes. Feeling uncomfortable with my colleagues. Feeling wander because of not having proper orientation. A lot of things to cope with. I want to quit! The words I whispered every time I feel exhausted.

  • Acceptance

Is teaching really for me? Precisely yes! Having encountered those imperfections and challenges, I learned to accept my responsibilities… I learned to love my profession…and I learned to lend service with all of my heart. Without self-reservation.

  • My Plans for the Next 3 Years

For the succeeding years, I will continue acquiring knowledge and skills to broader what I can share to my students. I will attend workshop/seminars and avail vocational courses. Above all, given the opportunity to endure my profession I am willing to embrace it knowing that many students need teachers who will guide their way.
